International Day against Violence and Bullying at School
May 2, 2024

UNESCO Member States declared the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School Including Cyberbullying, recognizing that school-related violence in all its forms is an infringement of children and adolescents’ rights to education and to health and well-being.
The day was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2007. It is an opportunity to call on governments, schools, families, and communities to take action to prevent violence and bullying in schools.
Violence and bullying can have a devastating impact on students’ physical and mental health, their academic performance, and their overall well-being. It can also lead to truancy, dropping out of school, and even suicide.
There are many things that can be done to prevent violence and bullying in schools. These include:
- Creating a positive school climate where all students feel safe and respected
- Teaching students about conflict resolution and how to deal with bullying
- Providing support for students who are being bullied
- Enacting anti-bullying policies and procedures
- Holding students accountable for their actions
The International Day against Violence and Bullying at School is an important opportunity to raise awareness of this issue and to take action to make schools safe for all students.
Here are some additional things you can do to help prevent violence and bullying in schools:
- Talk to your children about bullying and how to deal with it.
- Be a role model for your children by demonstrating respectful behavior.
- Report any incidents of bullying to school authorities.
- Get involved in your child’s school and help create a positive school climate.
Together, we can make schools safe for all students.
